Nancy Adams

Ceramics

Nancy Adams began her journey as a maker over 50 years ago, with her initial ceramic classes at the City College of San Francisco from 1968-1970. Her work quickly gained recognition, leading to her selling at Taylor/Ng, San Francisco's first craft store, and participating in the Renaissance Pleasure Faire. She has since become a regular at prestigious juried shows like the Sausalito Art Festival and the Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft show, where she has won numerous awards. Her work is featured in the permanent collection of the Racine Art Museum and the corporate collection of Celestial Seasons Tea. Now based on her ranch in Applegate, Oregon, she continues to create and exhibit her work, with no plans for retirement.

Materials and tools used include: wheel-thrown porcelain, hand-carved and modeled flora and fauna motifs, and airbrushed matte glazes fired in an oxidation kiln. While some of her pieces are purely sculptural, most serve a functional purpose as jewelry boxes, urns, or vessels for dry floral arrangements.
