After relocating to Portland, Sue Selbie studied at Oregon College of Art and Craft where she discovered a delight in crafting handmade books. This ignited her love for paper arts, leading her to create intricate 3D paper-cuts and holiday ornaments. During the pandemic, she explored surface pattern design and was captivated by its creative possibilities. Today, her nature-inspired work brings joy to the everyday through functional textile art.
Materials and tools used include: tea towel designs that begin as acrylic marker sketches in a handmade notebook, inspired by her garden plants and walks in Forest Park. These initial concepts evolve into digital repeat patterns, which she develops into coordinating seasonal colorways. Each collection features 4-6 complementary designs that work harmoniously together, creating cohesive gift sets in bright colors.
