Birds of Crater Lake National Park: A Natural History and Guide

The Wild Arts Festival 2026 Book Fair welcomes naturalist and professor emeritus of biology at Southern Oregon University, Stewart Janes. His new book, Birds of Crater Lake National Park: A Natural History and Guide, introduces readers to Oregon’s high-country birds and those encountered most often on visits to this breathtaking Oregon national park. The high country is a hostile environment for birds that live there and species that inhabit the area must be adaptable and resourceful to survive. This invaluable guide provides species accounts, detailed color photographs, descriptions, and distribution along with a narrative for the most characteristic birds found in the park, helping the reader understand each bird’s dependence on the varied habitats found in the park. Included are helpful essays that focus on the history, climate, geology and geography of the region. As a naturalist, Stewart has extensive knowledge of the area and served as a board member for the Crater Lake Natural History Association.
