Steph Littlebird
You Are the Land
We are pleased to welcome author Steph Littlebird to our Wild Arts Festival. Steph is an artist, curator, writer, and a member of Oregon’s Grand Ronde Confederated Tribes (Clatsop Chinook, Afalati Kalapuya). Her author debut You Are the Land, is a story of growing up, relationships with family and community, building self-confidence and, importantly, an appreciation of our planet and its resources. Through wonderful illustrations and lyrical words, it explores Indigenous culture's relationship with the land that supports and nurtures. For children and adults alike it is “...a loving reminder that ‘everyone can be a place keeper.’” (Kirkus Reviews) Steph’s first illustrated children's book, My Powerful Hair, was awarded the national Carter G. Woodson Social Studies Award. Her other titles include Fierce Aunties and Summer of the Bone Horses, among others. She has also been recognized as curator of an exhibition at the Five Oaks Museum in Portland, Oregon entitled This IS Kalapuyan Land in 2020, featured by ArtNews and PBS NewsHour.
