Artist Sarah Goodnough creates expressive paintings that reflect the beauty and mystery of life. Inspired by nature and the human spirit, her work is guided by intuition and realized through layered color, rich texture, and strong composition. Her paintings are distinctive visual experiences, imbued with sensitivity to mood, emotion, and energy.
Born and raised in Massillon, Ohio, Goodnough has lived in the Pacific Northwest since 1997 and currently resides in Vancouver, Washington. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication from Miami University and is a self-taught artist with nearly twenty years of experience as a professional painter.
Goodnough’s work is held in private and corporate collections and is featured in hotels and hospitals throughout the region. Her paintings are represented by galleries and have been exhibited at prominent fine art fairs nationwide, including La Quinta, Sausalito, Scottsdale, Seattle, Boise, and Coeur d’Alene.
Sarah begins with a random kaleidoscope of colors and texture using acrylic mediums on canvas or board. Next, she sketches in the concept with a paintbrush. Then she builds more layers of color and texture with glazes, splatters, scratches and drips throughout the picture. It is a spontaneous way of painting; often controlled and calculated but also allowing the paint to do what it wants. She makes calculated choices of what to keep and cover up until achieving the final effect.
