Meet the Artist
Sachiko Quinn
Drawing/Painting
Sachiko Quinn was born and raised in Japan. In 1995, she moved to Portland, Oregon, and started to practice batiking. She worked with various mediums as she created batik for over 20 years, eventually combining batiking and acrylic paint. In recent years, she has been exploring fluid acrylic and collaging, incorporating acrylic paint, paper, and sometimes her batik to create unique, one-of-a-kind mixed-media art. Her art has been recognized at various juried shows, reflecting her commitment to continual growth and innovation.
Materials and tools used include: layering crinkled tissue paper onto a wood panel, securing it with gesso to create a rich, textured foundation. Once the surface is sealed with gel medium, she builds depth through multiple layers of fluid acrylics, incorporating techniques like stenciling, stamping, and color resisting to form an interesting abstract background. She uses collage techniques to add further dimension and visual interest to the focal elements.
