A new linocut: "COVID Dreamscape". Trying to get a bit further out of my comfort zone with this, and trying to evoke some of what this whole pandemic experience has *felt like*. A nod to the Flammarion engraving, where a traveler is seen pushing their head through the firmament of the Earth to see a strange realm outside it, this image supposes that the head becomes the firmament, or the world beyond. On the traveler's plane they are surrounded by bitter individual nodes, secure in their beliefs but beset by flood and fire. In the farther plane they are falling forever through spheres of virus, spheres of gas, accompanied by psychopomps and explosions. Are they going through? Can they come back?
Printed on a Vandercook 3 letterpress at my home studio in Portland, OR, in Summer 2020.

Box jellies are among the most dangerous animals on Earth. They are also one of the most powerful swimmers among jellyfish, and have complex networks of real eyes that help them actively pursue their prey in the open waters of the Southern Ocean. Their beautiful blue bells pulse with a latent menace, and their long, clumped tentacles covered in stinging nematocysts wave gently in the swell, waiting to inject a powerful neurotoxin into any skin they encounter.
This is from a series of images of poisonous and venomous animals. A three-color screenprint made from rubylith and chart-pak dot matrix film in a totally analog process, with three split-fountain fades.
