Wild Arts Festival welcomes Niki Desautels, bat advocate and conservationist. Her engaging new book is For the Love of Bats: Exploring Nature at Night with the West’s Flying Mammals, full of fascinating details on these amazing night fliers - from echolocation and hibernation to feeding habits and migration. There is a guide to all 32 species commonly found west of the Rockies, plus resources for learning more, tips for observing bats and guidance on creating backyard habitats with bat houses. Niki holds a masters in science communications from Miami University. She also serves on the Board of Directors for Bats Northwest. She has previous experience as the Habitat at Home Coordinator at the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, and in developing the Bat Activity Trends community science program for Woodland Park Zoo. She is based in Seattle, Washington.
