Natalie Haskins is the self-taught artist and illustrator for Wild Valentine and her work explores the intersection of nature, narrative, and human emotion. Her striking black-ink illustrations draw inspiration from fairy tales, self-inquiry, and what she describes as "everyday magic," or the quiet, often overlooked moments of beauty and meaning woven into daily life.
Based in the Pacific Northwest, Natalie lives with her husband, her beloved dog Huckleberry, and a small flock of hens. Her work has appeared in print and is available through select local retailers. Rooted in a deep reverence for flora and fauna, Natalie's meticulous linework and monochromatic palette yield compositions that balance simplicity with sophisticated whimsy and emotional depth. Each piece serves as a visual offering - an invitation to engage with wonder, with presence, and with the wild and tender parts of the heart.
Her process begins with a conceptual vision and develops through pencil sketching that frequently draws on both the scientific relationships and folkloric symbolism of the plants and animals she depicts. Natalie crafts detailed black-ink illustrations digitally, primarily using Procreate, and occasionally integrates Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop for refinement. Each artwork is printed in-house using archival pigment inks on 100% cotton, acid-free fine art paper with a museum-grade printer. Additionally, she adapts her pieces onto functional goods such as woven throws, tea towels, bandanas, and enamel pins, ensuring each piece maintains the integrity of the original work.
