Meet the Artist
Leslie Perrin
Drawing/Painting
The Leafy Lexicon, featuring original botanical watercolor illustrations, is inspired by artist Leslie Perrin’s own wild garden. 'The Ecology of Heart and Place’ influences her work, connecting the themes of beauty, nature, and spirit. Leslie’s collection of fine paper goods includes joyful greeting cards, botanical calendars, garlands, meditation sets, art books, bookmarks and kitchen towels. Nestled into the countryside of Carlton, Oregon, her work can be found locally and further afield.
Leslie’s process combines both traditional and digital tools to bring her botanicals into multiple mediums. She begins all illustrations with a real plant specimen from her wild and expansive garden, catching the essence of the shape with a gestural sketch using a very fine 0.005-micron pen on 140# or 300# cold-pressed watercolor paper. Then, the watercolor washes are applied. A high-resolution scan captures the detailed paintings, allowing Leslie to move them into the digital realm for printing.
