LeeAnn Kriegh is a writer, nature lover and avid hiker who has combined her passions to create two captivating full-color field guides published by Mountaineers - The Nature of Portland and The Nature of Bend. Both titles are updated 2025 releases and identify more than 350 birds, wildflowers, trees and animals. The Portland title highlights when and where to see more than 350 species and 10 “treasure hunts” in the city from Powell Butte to Fernhill Wetlands. The Bend title is similarly approachable and includes a dozen scavenger hunts across Central Oregon. LeeAnn’s books have given thousands of readers an opportunity to get to know the facts and stories behind hundreds of species that make the Portland area and Central Oregon such beautiful and interesting places to live and visit. The author was “raised on the west side of the Cascades, picking strawberries, catching crawdads and helping woolly bears cross the road.” She has written for The Oregonian, along with many magazines, businesses and nonprofits. After living fifteen years on Sauvie Island, LeeAnn now lives in Bend.
