John Shewey

The Owl Handbook: Investigating the Lives, Habits, and Importance of These Enigmatic Birds

Wild Arts Festival welcomes John Shewey, a professional writer, photographer, editor, and speaker whose work has appeared in dozens of magazines, covering topics ranging from fly-fishing to natural history and wildlife, to cuisine and canines. Featured at the Festival this year are his latest, The Owl Handbook: Investigating the Lives, Habits, and Importance of These Enigmatic Birds, plus The Hummingbird Handbook, and Birds of the Pacific Northwest.  He’s also written Classic Steelhead Flies, and Oregon Beaches, A Traveler's Companion. John is the longtime editor-in-chief of American Fly Fishing magazine, and rejoices in the outdoors, enjoys studying wild things, and is addicted to fly angling. He is a “desert rat who has left boot prints in Oregon’s most remote places.” He revels in tiny towns, excellent whisky, good wine, decent ales, remote campsites, backcountry roads, and a few other hobbies that keep him hopping, always with camera and keyboard close at hand.
