Wild Arts Festival welcomes award-winning and NYT bestselling author, Jeff VanderMeer. Jeff’s popular, lush, and eerie Southern Reach Series includes four titles: Annihilation, Authority, Acceptance, and most recently, Absolution (2025 paperback). Annihilation won the Nebula Award and Shirley Jackson Award and was adapted into a Paramount movie. Jeff is also the author of Hummingbird Salamander and the Borne novels (Borne, The Strange Bird, and Dead Astronauts). He is a prolific writer and much of his output has been described as defying genre. There are elements of sci-fi and fantasy interlaced with noir, horror, thriller and the supernatural in his writing. It all taps a common source...there is infinite wonder and strangeness in nature. His environmental nonfiction has appeared in Time, The Nation, Current Affairs and Esquire, among others. He writes widely about issues relating to climate change and the environment. In 2023, Jeff founded the nonprofit Sunshine State Biodiversity Group. It is committed to conservation, education and community outreach related to biodiversity and rewilding in Florida and beyond.
