After three decades in graphic design, Jane Pellicciotto turned to jewelry making as a second career. Starting as a metalsmith, she then transitioned to polymer clay several years to have a more tactile experience and to allow for experimentation. Jane’s strong design background finds its way into her jewelry work in the form of seeking out the hidden design truths and rendering them in a new way. Her non-literal translations of what she sees opens up different interpretations for the viewer, creating more of an interactive experience. One person sees water, while another sees fabric. Jane teaches both technical and design workshops, participates in juried art shows and maintains a robust 2D art practice.
Materials used include polymer clay, metal, wood, and found objects, employed to create sculptural jewelry that abstracts the natural world and the urban environment. Techniques include image transfer, texturing, carving, and painting; components can be soldered, stitched, or riveted.
