Meet the Artist

Gregg Graff

2D Mixed Media

Gregg Graff's work is a study of the boundless array of textures, shapes, and colors found in nature, a synthesis of his background in graphic design/art direction and his partner Jacqueline's expertise in Botany and the Japanese floral design discipline of ikebana. With over 30 years of collaboration, each piece reflects an examination of self and their natural surroundings. From their studio in Washington State’s Olympic Mountains, they not only make the art but also keep the bees that produce the wax incorporated into their artwork. They have developed techniques that fuse modern technology and ancient wax painting methodology, with creative expression driven by the power and timelessness of minimalism.

Materials and tools used include: an organic resin consisting primarily of beeswax, with colors derived from natural materials such as lichens, earth minerals, and oil pigments. Specimens of nature collected from around the world are embedded into the resin and then fused by heat onto hand-finished aluminum panels.
