Eric Wagner, writer and seabird biologist, holds a Ph.D. in biology from the University of Washington. We are pleased to welcome him again to the Wild Arts Festival with his latest work, Seabirds as Sentinels: Auklets, Puffins, Shearwaters, and the View from Destruction Island. A fascinating read for anyone interested in birds, ecology, oceans or simply the effects of a changing world, Eric collaborates with a team of scientists who have been tracking the lives of auklets and other seabirds in the North Pacific, sometimes called the “Blue Serengeti” because of its productive ecosystem. Weaving together natural history, marine science, and the myriad stories that humans tell about their environments, Seabirds as Sentinels helps us keep a close watch on the uncertain future of the oceans that sustain us all. When not writing, Eric studies penguins in Argentina and rhinoceros auklets on islands off the Washington coast. He is the author of four books, and his writing has appeared in The Atlantic, Orion, and High Country News, among other places. He lives in Seattle with his family.
