Cascade of Life: An Artist’s Seasonal Guide to the Wild Northwest

Writer and illustrator Emily Poole has been exploring the wild spaces of the western United States since childhood. Emily’s book Cascade of Life: An Artist’s Seasonal Guide to the Wild Northwest, features the wondrous variety of the Pacific Northwest, from rocky shorelines to alpine slopes to arid steppes. It showcases original illustrations and essays, blending stunningly vivid paintings with personal anecdotes and field-based insights. Part field guide, part journal, and a welcoming, inspiring exploration of Cascadia’s landscapes and the species that define them, Cascade of Life is her first book as author and illustrator, and her illustrations have been featured in six other natural history books, including BirdNote, Northwest Know-How: Trees, and A Little Book of Hummingbirds. Emily has created work for organizations such as Creature Conserve, HawkWatch International, High Country News, and the National Museum of Wildlife Art. She lives in Eugene, Oregon.
