Ellie Purvis

woodworking

Ellie Purvis has been working with wood and resin since 2017 and has participated in many of the top art shows in the Pacific Northwest. Her process entails locally sourced wood trimmed, flattened, and laid out in a mold. Liquid epoxy resin is mixed with a hardener and colored pigments. The epoxy is then poured into the form with the wood. More resin colors are added and designs swirled into the resin as it slowly cures and forms a chemical bond with the wood. The now-solid piece is removed from the mold, planed, trimmed, shaped, drilled, and sanded. Finally, a food-safe oil and wax finish is applied.

Ellie is on the executive committee for Damascus Open Studios and a member of the Guild of Oregon Woodworkers. Mt. Hood Craft donates 10% of all rainbow purchases to Q Center, the largest LGBTQ+ community center in the Pacific Northwest. Ellie is also a certified American Sign Language Interpreter and when not interpreting, traveling for art shows, or in her woodshop, she can often be found playing board games with her two kids.
