Dave Fox
PAINTING/DRAWING
Based in Bend, Oregon, Dave Fox lives with his wife, three children, two dogs and a cat. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Arizona and continued his studies through the Wass Atelier online program. Drawing has been a constant in Dave’s life, but he committed to painting full-time in 2017 after retiring from a career opening and operating health clubs throughout the United States.
Dave describes himself as a bit of a nomad. Having grown up in a military family, he developed a strong sense of wanderlust and has lived in various parts of the country. Born in Massachusetts, he spent much of his childhood moving between New England and Berlin, Germany, and graduated from Berlin American High School. Those early experiences shaped his adaptability and broadened his perspective on place—an influence that continues to inform his work today.
Color is the starting point of Dave’s landscapes and wildlife paintings. He uses bold, unexpected color to shape mood rather than describe reality, creating work that feels remembered rather than observed. Viewers often describe a sense of nostalgia and familiarity they can’t quite place. In his wildlife paintings, personality is central—especially through the eyes—inviting a quiet connection between viewer and animal while balancing atmosphere, emotion, and interpretation.
