Christopher Rich
GLASS
Christopher Rich traveled to Murano, Italy to study the techniques of present-day glass masters as well as the history of glass blowing. Later, he was privileged to study art with a master of painting, Professor Silvio Loffredo of The Florence Academy of Art. His European journey then took him to England to learn innovative British glass blowing techniques at the renowned International Glass Centre in Brierley Hill. Returning to the US 1994 ,Christopher designed and built his own glass studio in Portland, Oregon, where he is able to pursue his passion full-time. He strives to share his love of glass with apprentices and students, and to create a variety of designs that bring beauty, color and joy to those who appreciate glass art, novice and experienced customers alike. Many of his pieces have the added benefit of offering practical function in the home and garden. During most weekends of the year, he can be found at The Portland Saturday Market along the city's waterfront.
His artwork is made for both indoor and outdoor use. It is all hand blown by Christopher, right here in Portland. In the studio, glass is heated to 2,000 degrees and is gathered and formed using traditional techniques acquired in Murano Italy and England. Much of his focus is to bring beauty and color to the garden by creating unique birdbaths, bird feeders, and creative sculpture. Materials used include glass, copper, wood, and metal.
