Cheryl Brown has been an artist for as long as she can remember. Her work with collage representing birds and other wildlife on maps has been her focus for about 10 years. She has participated in many art festivals in the Pacific Northwest, including Best of the Northwest in Seattle, Anacortes, Coupeville, Bellevue Art Museum, Artfest in Spokane, Art on the Green and Sun Valley in Idaho, Lake Oswego and the Wild Arts Festival. Over the years, she has shown in several galleries in the Pacific Northwest including Northwest by Northwest in Cannon Beach.
As a collage artist, Cheryl utilizes handmade (cast, painted, and printed), manufactured, and recycled papers to depict a variety of birds. The image backgrounds are vintage maps representing the regions where the birds reside, as well as the areas where her work is exhibited. To complete each piece, she enhances them with colored pencils to add detail. Look for unexpected snippets in her work or an interesting object the bird might be investigating to add a touch of whimsy and perhaps, a smile.
