My bird skulls are each thrown on the wheel then altered, carved and occasionally beaks are added. They are inspired by bird skulls that I have collected and studied for their textures and forms. These skulls are not intended to be anatomically correct but to celebrate the natural beauty of the bone and grace of the bird.

Porcelain. 8" x 5" x 5". Electric fired.
Wheel thrown, altered, and carved Pour-over coffee set. Hand carved dragonfly image on the surface of the pour-over and poppies on the mug. These images are all carved freehand while the clay is still pliable then fired to a low temperature, oxides are applied before glazing and then the piece is fired again to approximately 2160 F. Then the gold luster is hand painted and the piece is fired a third time.

Wheel thrown and carved porcelain vase. Triangle lace pattern carved at the rim. This piece was fired in a wood/soda kiln to approximately 2250 F for 30+ hours.

Wheel thrown translucent porcelain pierced pod. These pieces make lovely luminaries with small tealight candles or can hang on a wall with an air plant. The translucent porcelain emits a warm glow while the cutouts cast elaborate shadows when lit from within.

Glazed Stoneware.
A stoneware vessel (both functional and sculptural) rejoicing in the visual fullness of sound and a celebration of texture. This piece is created with an additive process; sculpting individual trumpets and attaching them to a thrown body. The outside of the form is glazed with a soft-white satin glaze and the inside of the bowl and flutes are stained with an oxide and layered with a clear glaze.
