Carrie Moore

Drawing/Painting, Metal

A graphic designer and printmaker for many years, Carrie Moore received her BA from Marylhurst University and was primarily influenced by Dennis Cunningham, a mentor and late friend. Using soft and hard pastels, each painting is created by bold graphic strokes directly by hand, like a child might use sidewalk chalk. The substrate is one of two: sanded paper or a French un-sized paper called BFK Rives. Framed under museum glass, each work is placed into a solid wood Italian frame. Carrie also designs, patinates, and hammer-hardens delicate collectible ornaments made of 100% pure copper.

Carrie says: “Nature and a sense of place, shadow and light is where it begins for me.” Memories and personal experiences in nature are strong elements in Carrie’s work and the key to her designs is the understanding that the negative space in the work is as important as the positive.
