Carisa Miller

LULA Pottery is Carisa Miller and a flock of chickens in her backyard garden pottery studio in Portland, Oregon since November 2018. Her methods and work have been featured in Ceramics Monthly Magazine (2022), and in a televised interview on Show and Tell with Tony Martinez (2024). This year she participated in the Lake Oswego Arts Festival for the fourth time, after winning the blue ribbon for Artistic Achievement in 2025. She also returned to the Edmonds Art and made her debut at the 2026 Art in The Pearl. Carisa will be among the local artists featured on the fall 2026 Portland Open Studios Tour.
Carisa’s work uses clay to reveal the common origins of biological and geological forms. A piece may resemble coral, bone, seed, or eroded stone; its patterns and textures evoking river systems, neural, vascular, or mycelial networks. To Carisa, these are all variations of a single generative force. Pit fired pieces use organic combustibles from the garden and chicken yard and often hold recognizable silhouettes of carbonized materials in the clay, most notably hops, hydrangea, and feathers.
