Carisa Miller
Ceramics
Born and raised in the Willamette Valley, Carisa Miller spends her days covered in clay in her backyard garden studio, in the constant company of animals. Her clay practice is craft-centric, material-driven, rooted in simplicity, and seeks to embody the essence of the natural elements that give it form. Her pieces are created with personal interaction in mind and are intended as quietly beautiful, intimate, and essential companions.
Materials and tools used include: predominantly wheel-thrown, minimal forms with clean lines and organic variation across the finished surface. Pieces are fired in various ways, including in an open pit fire utilizing organic combustibles provided by her chickens and garden (pine shavings, errant grains, droppings, dropped feathers, dried grasses, vines, and leaves), and in an electric kiln utilizing glazes made in-house.
