Meet the Artist
Autumn Higgins
Ceramics
Autumn Higgins was born into a family of artists, giving her an early understanding of the importance of art objects in one's life. Her serious interest in ceramics began at Southern Oregon University (2004-2008), followed by post-baccalaureate studies at the University of Florida (2010) and a Master of Fine Arts from Louisiana State University (2014). She moved to Minneapolis for an artist residency at Northern Clay Center in 2015, where she taught at various levels while maintaining a busy studio practice and exhibition schedule. After having her second child, she returned to Portland in fall 2022, establishing her home studio and continuing to exhibit locally at shows like Art in the Pearl and Ceramic Showcase, as well as in galleries nationally.
Materials and tools used include: wheel-thrown and hand-built porcelain for functional and decorative use, decorated with watercolor-like illustrations of plants, animals, and local landscapes, fired to create dense translucent porcelain that brings viewers into contact with the illustrations.
