Ann Cavanaugh

Glass

Ann Cavanaugh always had a passion for nature and an appreciation of color and texture. She was drawn to the depth and complexity that were possible by building layers of glass into translucent images of amazing emotional power. The glass she makes reflects the textures and colors of the natural world. Ann loves the process and the problem solving that is involved in taking the raw glass material and creating new glass in an image that she had pictured. Equally important to Ann is sharing her techniques so that others can have the excitement and joy she experiences every time she opens the kiln. Ann’s work is kiln formed glass. Glass in a variety of forms- powder, sheet, frit, stringer - is layered from back to front in a glass tray.

Layering creates the depth that characterizes her work. Ann is continuously learning and improving her skills. She is currently participating in Master Classes taught by Narcissus Qualglita who is a master glass artist. In addition to teaching, she is represented by several west coast galleries and participates in Pacific Northwest art shows.
