Amy Fields

Ceramics

Originally from Buffalo, New York, Amy Fields has made Portland, Oregon her home for over 20 years. She received her BFA with a concentration in ceramics at the NYSCC @ Alfred University. Since living in the PNW, she has enjoyed participating in many juried fine art fairs including Art In The Pearl, BAM, Kimball Arts Festival, and Salem Arts Festival. Her work has also been featured in numerous gallery shows and can be found at Stark Street Studios and Gallery and Eutectic Gallery in Portland, OR as well as at Imogen Gallery in Astoria, OR.

Materials and tools used include: porcelain and occasionally stoneware to explore texture, translucency, and form. Her simple, functional, or sculptural forms are decorated with hand-carved images of creatures and textures reminiscent of glaciers and seascapes. Atmospheric firing is a major aspect of her work, with the amalgamation of wood ash and soda interacting with the minerals in the clay to create wonderfully unpredictable surfaces of color and pattern.
